This week I had the pleasure of interviewing Evan Harris about his low rider. Evan was born and raised in Clarksville. He has always loved living here, mostly due to the fact that there are people that share the same love of cars that he does. He says that he is lucky to have many people around him for support because without them he wouldn’t be where he is today. His biggest supporter is his dad, Russell Harris. Evan’s dad inspired and helped him to make his car what it is. Why is this unusual? Evan is only 17 years old and along with his dad’s help, he has built this car. The first time I met Evan, he took me for a ride in his car. Riding, or should I say bouncing, in a low rider is better than being on a carnival ride! These cars are such fun and I am always in awe when I see them at events.
I asked Evan what he likes about the car scene. He said, “I love how the community comes together to make events happen. I love the fact that we all have one thing in common, we love cars. I enjoy riding out for a little bit and cruising with people I love and friends you don’t want to roll without. Then, parking at a meet and showing off all the hard work we have done to our cars.”
Evan owns a 1995 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. He and his dad got the car when he was 15 years old and he has owned the car for 2 years. When he got the car it was basically stock with a little bit of rust. Evan always loved riding with his dad in his low rider when he was growing up and knew he wanted one also. The first thing he did was put chrome wire wheels on it and a system in the trunk. The car now has OG wire wheels that his dad originally had on his low rider. He made a speaker box for his system which is a 2,800 watt Skar 12s with a Skar 2000 watt amp. Evan did the suspension and put the hydraulics on. He had the upper and lower control arms reinforced and the rear end reinforced. The rear end is not stock but a G body rear end. Finally, he finished the trunk with the chrome hydraulic tanks, batteries and all the necessities for the hydraulics to work and look fantastic. His trunk currently has 3 pumps and 6 batteries. Future plans include getting a new paint job. He has not decided on a color yet however, he knows he wants paint with flakes in it. Currently the car has wood panels on the inside; he wants to have all of that changed out to chrome engraved pieces. Evan also wants to make the undercarriage chrome. He wants to finish the trunk with some kind of detail but he is not sure what. He said, “When people see it, I want them to say wow look at this, its dope!” He has plenty of time to make decisions about what he wants and get everything done.
I asked Evan if this is his dream car. He said, “This isn’t my dream car but I do want to keep it for a while. My dream car is a 1959 Chevrolet Impala or a 1979 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. My dad has a Monte Carlo that he has big plans for.” Where are his favorite places to drive? He said, “I like to drive on Riverside Drive and look at the river and the older buildings downtown. I also like to drive on Madison Street and Wilma Rudolph. I get the most attention from people driving down these streets.”
