This week I had the honor of interviewing one of the newer members of the Clarksville Gearhead Car Club, Joshua Jones. I asked him what he likes about being a member. He said, “I have been a member for only a short time, however in that time, I find that the variety of enthusiasts in the area is great. At any one event everything from imports to Jeeps to trucks and muscle cars are represented. I love the fact that we are all able to come together and hang out as car enthusiasts.” Welcome to the club Joshua!
Joshua’s car is a 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z28, which he calls The Mullet-28. He bought the car in 2015 as a way to get back into the hobby. It has transformed from a completely stock car to now a showcase for the business. So far the car has a 383 small block Chevy with forged internals, ported aluminum heads, and Edelbrock Pro Flo fuel injection. It has Dyno Don 1 ¾” headers through a Mufflex 3.5” single exhaust handle.
The transmission has been converted from a 5 speed to a Stage 2 T56 built by Hawks Motorsports which then turns the 10 bolt rear with a Detroit Trutrac, Moser axles, and 3.42 Gears. The suspension is from UMI Performance and includes a complete replacement of all control arms, springs, an adjustable panhard bar, and Koni shocks. The brakes are Wilwood Four piston up front and two pistons in the rear with a manually adjustable proportioning valve in the car. Wheels are US Wheel 17*9 steel wheels with BFG tires. What a list of modifications! Future plans for the car include continuing to refine the handling while finishing the interior and exterior of the car. He has plans on running more tire with a set of 18*10.5 wheels and tires to match.
I asked Joshua if this is his dream car. He said, “Maybe not my dream car but definitely one of my favorites. I don’t know that I have a dream car but anything that has power and handles is good for me.” Where are his favorite places to drive? He said, “I love a cruise through LBL (Land between the Lakes). Beyond that, the backroads down to Dickson and towards Jackson, Tn. are always a joy to drive.”
Joshua came to the area in 2008 with the Army and has been here since. He assumes he will be here for the last stint of his military career. He also has a local business called Operational Speed Supply. It is an e-commerce automotive business that focuses on anything aftermarket and performance.
