I had the honor of interviewing one of my dear friends for this week’s blog. Josh Schoonover is a member of the Clarksville Gearheads Car Club and Vet Speed Racing. I asked him what he likes about the local car scene. He said, “I like that people with any make and model car can come together and enjoy themselves unlike most other clubs that are set to a specific car. Its good not seeing the same ‘ole thing at every meet.”
Josh’s car, which is named Beowulf, is a sleek black and lime green 1999 Pontiac Trans Am. He has owned the car for little over a year and a half. It would be easier to write about what has not been done to this car! The quick rundown is that it has a turbo charged iron block 5.7 LS, it has a power glide transmission, 9 inch rear full suspension and has had chassis work done. Future plans include doing the heads, intake and a bigger turbo. If you have not had the privilege of seeing this car at the track you are missing out! I cannot wait to see him race at the track this spring against a certain hellcat! This car runs high sixes in the 1/8th mile.
I asked Josh if this is his dream car. He said, “My dream car has been a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro since I was young. Now that I’m older I still want it but want to modify it to make it faster.” Where are his favorite places to drive? He said, “I don’t get out much so mainly the Gearheads meets and the racetrack.”
The Army brought Josh to the area. He is from the southwest and didn’t see his life continuing in a desert so he stayed here when he got out of the military. Josh is married; you will also see his beautiful wife Courtney at many events and they have three wonderful children. In his spare time he likes to tinker on the car. He likes to work on things that need to be fixed, whether his own stuff or someone else’s. Josh has helped many members work on their cars when they have gotten into a bind.
Josh is also a member of Vet Speed Racing. This is a fantastic non-profit organization that does wonderful things for veterans. If you have not checked out their page on Facebook, please go over and give them a like and see what they are doing.
If you would like to follow Josh and Beowulf on Instagram, their name is @vsrbeowulfws6. Thank you Josh for participating in our Full Throttle Thursday blog!
On behalf of all the dolls, thank you for your service!
Join me each week to meet a new vehicle owner and their vehicle.
