We Thank You Wednesday- The Clarksville Gearheads

This week we would like to thank The Clarksville Gearheads. Over the weekend a few of our dolls spent Sunday afternoon with the Gearheads supporting another local car group, Last Century Hot Rodz and Haulers. Not only were the Gearheads in attendance to support their fellow car enthusiasts, but they also used $180 that was raised from their previous swap meet and car show to support Last Century’s fundraising efforts. The $180 that was donated will cover the cost of one child from Bell Academy School for The Blind to attend a field trip next summer at Austin Peay State University.

When I first moved to the Clarksville/ Fort Campbell area and was searching for ways to get involved in the pinup community, one of the first groups I sought out was our local car clubs. I messaged the president Kevin Martin, attended a few of their meetups, and knew that I wanted to be involved with their club, support their club, and attend their meetings.

While every group or club may face unkind words or remarks on social media, those of us that are actively involved in the group, know the true character of the president, admins, and active group members. They are dedicated to their local car scene. They are dedicated to one another and the community as a whole. They are like a family. For this reason, our dolls attend their events and many of us are active members in their group as well.

In my short time in Clarksville, I have read comments and heard comments about how the Gearheads race up and down the streets of Clarksville and that is simply not true. On the contrary, I have witnessed admins of the group talking to members about NOT doing that. I have seen and heard admins explaining the rules to the group and discouraging such behavior. I have heard and read comments regarding their “childlike” or “insulting” behavior online—however, much like family and friends, they joke with one another. Just like brothers and sisters. Just like friends. Just like most other car groups, groups of friends, or family members do.

In my short time in Clarksville I have also witnessed The Clarksville Gearheads organize toy drives for the Toys for Tots. They have another toy drive planned for this holiday season that will be taking place on December 12, 2020 from 12pm-3pm at Governor’s Square Mall in the Sears parking lot.

During the quarantine lockdown, The Clarksville Gearheads organized birthday drive-bys for children who were unable to have birthday parties. They organized celebration drive-bys for graduating seniors. They participated in a local high school graduation ceremony as well.

When one of our dolls had emergency surgery, without hesitation, The Clarksville Gearheads wrote cards and sent monetary donations to her to help her with expenses she may encounter. They do the same for their own members. Over the short period of time I have been involved with the group, I have witnessed them pull together like a family and help one another after a car accident, when they need mechanical help, when their car breaks down, when one of their members is in need... they pull together like a family. Most recently, they organized a fundraising event to help one of their members who was in a serious accident and hospitalized.

In addition to supporting one another, organizing toy drives, sponsoring children for field trips, raising money for other causes, they also organize a very large Trunk or Treat event to ensure children have a fun and safe way to collect candy in the community. Last year they had an amazing turnout, and we are anticipating another great turnout this year. This year the annual trunk-or-treat will be held in the same location, Rimtyme Custom Wheels and Tires on October 24, 2020 from 6pm-8pm. Our dolls are honored to be part of this event and cars will be socially distancing to ensure they are spaced apart and practicing best practice for the safety and wellbeing of our community.

On behalf of all of our dolls and the community in general, we want to thank The Clarksville Gearheads for their ongoing community support, involvement and dedication to the community.
